HOW DO I LOSE WEIGHT AFTER THE HOLIDAYS?

DEAR DALI MAMA:

I put on a lot of weight over the holidays, largely because of stress eating while spending Christmas and New Year’s with my parents and my brother and his family. How do I stop this and how do I lose the weight? Are there any energetic “tricks”?

–Stuffed (United States)

DEAR STUFFED:

It is very common for people in the United States and some other countries to gain weight over the holidays as well as to stress eat. Overeating (particularly sugar or other processed foods) and excessive drinking (alcohol in particular but even too much caffeine can have a similar effect) can pop you out of your body, leaving you numb to whatever stresses you’re experiencing or to the issues that are getting lit up for you by being around your family.

I am sending you the free grounding exercises for you to do, which can help lose the excess weight. Also pay attention to any feelings (during the holiday or otherwise) that make you want to get the heck out of Dodge by overeating or overconsuming alcohol or even caffeinated drinks. When you feel like you want to pop out by overeating or overdrinking, it’s even more important to stay grounded so you can look at any release any energies pushing you out of full awareness so you can full enjoy being in a healthy body with choices that support your optimal health.

HOW DO YOU HANDLE PEOPLE WHO KEEP TRYING TO FEED YOU WHEN YOU’RE TRYING TO LOSE WEIGHT?

DEAR DALI MAMA:

How do you handle people who keep trying to feed you when you’re trying to lose weight? I am on a very restricted diet for health reasons, but my family and friends keep trying to practically force-feed me—unhealthy stuff, too, like desserts, pasta, and things generally swimming in gravy and fat.

–Fatty (United States)

DEAR F.:

You need to train them to respect your new eating habits. Don’t go into resistance to them trying to feed you (as most of them are probably doing it out of love). Just politely keep saying, “Thank you but I have had enough.” When they pile food on your plate despite your protests, just leave the food on the plate, untouched. Eventually, they’ll get the message.

WHY IS IT DIFFICULT TO LOSE WEIGHT?

DEAR DALI MAMA:

I’m trying to lose weight but am having a really hard time. What causes this difficulty?

–Overweight, Overdo (Canada)

DEAR OVERS:

There are many physical and energetic aspects related to both being overweight and difficulty losing weight.

One of the primary energetic challenges I see is that sometimes the extra weight has served as a buffer for the person feeling the energies within themselves that they’re buffering against. Common energies may include a need for healthier boundaries between themselves and others, a tendency to absorb unwanted energies for other people, and simply not wanting to feel energies within themselves (including energies from childhood) that made them pop out of their body somewhat by excessive drinking, eating more than their bodies truly wanted, or other reasons.

When a person begins to cut down on unwanted weight, they can hit up against all those energies that made them put it on in the first place. If you can be present to these energies and process them, you’ll be able to drop the weight that much easier on an energetic level.

Congratulations on looking at this so you can move forward more consciously and confidently. I wish you good health.
