HOW DO I LOSE WEIGHT AFTER THE HOLIDAYS?

DEAR DALI MAMA:

I put on a lot of weight over the holidays, largely because of stress eating while spending Christmas and New Year’s with my parents and my brother and his family. How do I stop this and how do I lose the weight? Are there any energetic “tricks”?

–Stuffed (United States)

DEAR STUFFED:

It is very common for people in the United States and some other countries to gain weight over the holidays as well as to stress eat. Overeating (particularly sugar or other processed foods) and excessive drinking (alcohol in particular but even too much caffeine can have a similar effect) can pop you out of your body, leaving you numb to whatever stresses you’re experiencing or to the issues that are getting lit up for you by being around your family.

I am sending you the free grounding exercises for you to do, which can help lose the excess weight. Also pay attention to any feelings (during the holiday or otherwise) that make you want to get the heck out of Dodge by overeating or overconsuming alcohol or even caffeinated drinks. When you feel like you want to pop out by overeating or overdrinking, it’s even more important to stay grounded so you can look at any release any energies pushing you out of full awareness so you can full enjoy being in a healthy body with choices that support your optimal health.

WHY IS IT DIFFICULT TO LOSE WEIGHT?

DEAR DALI MAMA:

I’m trying to lose weight but am having a really hard time. What causes this difficulty?

–Overweight, Overdo (Canada)

DEAR OVERS:

There are many physical and energetic aspects related to both being overweight and difficulty losing weight.

One of the primary energetic challenges I see is that sometimes the extra weight has served as a buffer for the person feeling the energies within themselves that they’re buffering against. Common energies may include a need for healthier boundaries between themselves and others, a tendency to absorb unwanted energies for other people, and simply not wanting to feel energies within themselves (including energies from childhood) that made them pop out of their body somewhat by excessive drinking, eating more than their bodies truly wanted, or other reasons.

When a person begins to cut down on unwanted weight, they can hit up against all those energies that made them put it on in the first place. If you can be present to these energies and process them, you’ll be able to drop the weight that much easier on an energetic level.

Congratulations on looking at this so you can move forward more consciously and confidently. I wish you good health.

HOW DO I GET OFF SUGAR?

DEAR DALI MAMA:

I am addicted to sugar. It’s as bad as if I were an alcoholic, only sugar is my poison—pastries, ice cream, straight sugar, you name it. What causes this and how do I get this bitter/sweet monkey off my back?

–Tweaking (United States)

DEAR TWEAKING:

You are exactly right that sugar can be just as much an addiction as alcohol. Or drugs or anything for that matter.

You might have to go off sugar totally for a few weeks—pastries, ice cream, sodas, fruit juice, and maybe even high-glycemic stuff such as pasta and rice. You might even be one of those people that pretty much needs to go off certain sugary foods for good in order to control your consumption of sugars. You’ll have to experiment with that. The first couple weeks, you might go into major withdrawal.

Try to recognize triggers that make you want to eat sugar and substitute healthy activities into your life instead—eating protein such as raw almonds or going for a walk. Sometimes stress or sadness or other emotions may make you want to eat sugar. Sugar, like alcohol or drugs, tends to pop you out of the body, temporarily making it easier to “deal” with whatever you’re avoiding by popping you out of the emotional or psychic pain you’re trying to escape from, consciously or not. However, those energies never really get dealt with if you pop out through sugar or other substances so kudos on really dealing with this so you can get to the root of the issue.

Talk to your doctor or nutritionist for specific suggestions tailored to your individual health needs. Congratulations on making this positive change to support your optimal health!

ENERGETIC TIP FOR TIREDNESS AFTER SLEEP

DEAR DALI MAMA:

Sometimes when I wake up in the morning, I’m still so exhausted. Do you know why I’m so tired even after sleeping enough?

–Sleepy in Seattle (United States)

DEAR SLEEPY:

If you’ve addressed the standard possibilities (having blinking or other lights in your sleeping area, electronics near your bed, caffeine or alcohol disrupting sleep, or sleep apnea), try setting the intention to have a restful night’s before you go to bed and calling your energy back to you in divine form from the astral when you wake up. A lot of times when we’re working hard on the astral, we may forget to call all our energy back from the astral, which can help your energy levels a lot.

BREAKING BAD HABITS

DEAR DALI MAMA:

How do you break a bad habit?

–Wondering (United States)

DEAR WONDERING:

Well, there are specific things according the specific type of bad habit, but I’ll just answer generally and you can ask another question about a specific habit if you want to.

With habits such as smoking or caffeine or sugar, for example, start with looking at the triggers that make you want to smoke or ingest caffeine or sugar. Smoking, caffeine, and sugar are all habits that pop you out of your body. Alcohol or drugs as well.

So when you’re starting to get in touch with the emotional or psychic pain you’re holding in your body, you may want to smoke or do other things to pop out of your body as a way to cope with the pain. Unfortunately, with habits like that, the pain is still in your body when you come back in, and so the energies you want to escape only get compounded.

So instead of reaching for a cigarette or other substance, notice the energies that make you want to pop out, sit with those energies a while and do any processing you need to, and give them space to eventually release.

Have fun ending any habits that don’t support your wellness and prosperity!
